3-POINT Heavy Duty DETHATCHER – Overview
The Heavy Duty Dethatcher uses a heavier duty chassis than the standard 3-point model, plus a bolt-on second row of spring-steel tines ensure ultimate ground contact and makes the HD capable of thatching and collecting more material in tougher conditions than the standard model.
This means you’re getting double the raking action when you use the Heavy Duty vs the Standard Duty Dethatcher.

Available in 60, 70, or 80 inch widths, this dethatcher can be sized to be wider than the footprint of your subcompact or compact tractors.
Sizing up allows you to cover even more ground quicker, and it’s light enough that it won’t put a strain on your tractor. You just need to know the narrowest place you will take your rake, and size for that.
Also a larger rake (or mower or any attachment really) can have a harder time maintaining ground contact over uneven territory. Still, the tradeoff is probably worth sizing up to the largest width you possibly can.
We use a dethatcher on our tractor all the time and you can see us demonstrate completely clearing our trails of leaves in just two passes, dethatching our lawn, breaking apart aerated soil plugs, removing pine straw to down to the bare dirt, lightly grading our gravel drive, and more in the videos below.

Dethatcher Uses
This dethatcher rake is the ideal tool for dethatching grass in your yard, pastures, food plots, basically anywhere. It’s not just for grass though—you can use it for soil such as in a horse arenas, for refreshing and leveling your gravel drive.
It’s an excellent tool to rake your soil prior to seeding  for grass. We’ve used it to quickly rake leaves and sticks. And one of the most satisfying uses was sweeping away pine straw to reveal freshly groomed soil.

Why Use a 3-Point Dethatcher?
Thatch is a layer of dead grass, roots and other small lawn debris between the top growth of your grass and the roots. Thatch acts like a barrier to your lawn, preventing essential moisture, air, and nutrients from entering your lawn’s root system.
Removing this layer (dethatching) helps your lawn’s root system prosper.
If you plan to seed, dethatching is an important step that should not be overlooked before spreading. Seed will often take root in thatch rather than the soil, and will die out quickly due to insufficient access to nutrients and water. Unlike a landscape rake, the dethatcher is gentle on your lawn preventing damage.
