CMP Zero-Turn Front-Mount Dethatcher

Thatch is a layer of dead grass, roots and other small lawn debris between the top growth of your grass and the roots. Thatch acts like a barrier to your lawn, preventing essential moisture, air, and nutrients from entering your lawn’s root system.

Mounting in front of the mower also allows the extracted thatch to be mulched by the mower blades for faster decomposition, or to be collected using a sweeper.

Removing this layer (dethatching) helps your lawn’s root system prosper. If you plan to seed, dethatching is an important step that should not be overlooked before spreading. Seed will often take root in thatch rather than the soil, and will die out quickly due to insufficient access to nutrients and water.

One of the most versatile attachments for your tractor!

When selecting 50″ or 60”, think of the mowing width of your mower and size accordingly.

You’ll cover even ground roughly 20% faster with the larger dethatcher, but you want to consider hard-to-navigate spaces and maintaining ground contact over uneven territory.

We use a dethatcher on our tractor all the time and you can see us demonstrate completely clearing our trails of leaves in just two passes, dethatching our lawn, breaking apart aerated soil plugs, removing pine straw to down to the bare dirt, lightly grading our gravel drive, and more in the videos below.

How To Install Your Front-Mount Dethatcher

CMP has a very helpful video, demonstrating the full process of how to install their front-mount dethatcher to your mower.

Great addition to my zero turn . ez enough to put together .If you get the 50 ” you get 4 extra tines , so no extras needed . I only mow after it gets a little too high so I usually had to go over a few passes to get all the thrown trimmings knocked down and spread out .
Thatcher all but eliminated multiple passes . Did have to make wider turns as my skidsteer uturns caused a few smiley faces where the thatcher dug in as spinning around . Definitely will be using each and every cut as makes such a big improvement .
