What do we carry for Skid Steers?

Skid Steers and Track Steers share a common quick-attach style, appropriately called Skid Steer Quick Attach (SSQA). Most tractor manufacturers (besides John Deere) use the same style on their loaders, so skid loader attachments meant for large tractors might also work on skid steers.

But Skid Steers are often more powerful, and have more hydraulic flow than tractors, so some attachments we carry are for skid steers only.

One big advantage of a skid steer attachment compared to a 3-Point Tractor Attachment is that it’s in front of you, so you can see what you’re working on. Instead of being powered by a PTO, the attachment is powered by hydraulic flow.

So, whereas with a tractor, you would pull a brush hog, with a skid steer, you push it and can see what you’re mowing as you go.

We have a varied and growing collection of skid steer attachments for sale. We’ve got grapples, snow pushers, rotary cutters, buckets, and one of our favorite tools, the Tree Puller.

Let’s discuss a few in more detail.

Precision Manufacturing Tree Puller

The Precision Mfg Tree Puller is one of the most fun skid steer attachments we’ve used.

When we hooked it up to our John Deere 333G, we weren’t quite sure the attachment would live up to its name. But lo and behold, we found plenty of trees we could clamp and pull right from the ground.

We pushed some over with the attachment and carried them away in the jaws. Still others, we sawed at the tree’s roots or base with the serrated edge before pulling it from the ground.

Of course, you can’t just yank any ol’ tree out of the ground. But we did pull up trees 7” in diameter and 45 ft high. Also, meant to pull steel t-posts, this was easy work for the attachment.

No pushing or pulling to loosen the post; just clamp and raise your loader. Voila!

HLA 3500 Snow Pusher

If you know us at all, you know we love snow pushers. They are a very effective tool for snow removal, and HLA makes the best one we’ve seen, hands down.

With no internal cross bracing to trap snow, a radiused back to keep snow rolling forward as you push, double wall reinforced ends, the largest back drag available, and the option for rubber, steel, or plastic skids and cutting edges, there is no option left to want!

Available in small sizes for even subcompact tractors, HLA makes their 3500 Series in widths of 7ft up to 12 ft! That’s a lot of snow being trapped in each pass.

Once you push your snow to your desired location, just raise your loader and back away. Unlike a bucket, there is no bottom surface to hold onto snow.

Rotary Cutters & Forestry Mulcher

IronCraft makes five very heavy duty brush cutters for skid steers with cut capacities from 3” diameter up to a whopping 10”! That’s some cutting power. So depending on your cutting needs and the condition of your property, there’s a cutter for you.

If you don’t want to simply cut things down but shred them into mulch so you don’t have to deal with them further, consider a Forestry Disc Mulcher. These things are beasts, and the larger series will cut down 14” trees and mulch anything 6” in diameter or less. So you can turn an overgrown field into a flat, easy-to-navigate piece of land ready for anything you want to do with it.

Grapples for Skid Steers

What makes a grapple a skid steer grapple? Size and a robust build. Skid steers can lift a lot, and they put out a lot of force.

So, a grapple on the loader of a skid steer should take advantage of that lift capacity and withstand the machine’s force output.

Precision Heavy Duty 444 Grapple

Precision Manufacturing makes the Heavy Duty 444 Grapple Rake, made from 3/4″ GR50 High Strength Steel and meant for skid steers with 2,700 lb at least lift capacities, this is a beefy grapple with a starting weight of 1,277 lb.

They’ve fully plumbed and protected the hoses and cylinders, used high-strength steel, cut out steel in the pattern to save weight, reinforced the points of the rake tines, and created a massive 73” grapple opening. This is a premium grapple for commercial users.

IronCraft makes a much more economical but still beefy and heavy-duty grapple rake in their Extreme Duty Series. Built from ½” AR400 steel, available in widths of 72”, 78”, and 84”, these grapples weigh nearly 1000 lb.

The Extreme Duty has a grapple opening of 51” in every width available and is powered by American-made 2×10” 4,000 psi cylinders.

6-N-1 Bucket

Skip the 4-N-1 Bucket and go straight to the 6-N-1! IronCraft makes a fantastic tool at an unbeatable value with their 6-N-1 Bucket. It has all the functions of a 4-N-1 like dozing, digging, grappling, and grading, and adds power-raking and sifting to the list!

Seriously, we’ve been able to accomplish so many tasks with this attachment without ever having to swap to another. Prep for a driveway while cleaning up debris and even grappling and yanking old fence posts or brush piles in the way.

A power rake alone is an expensive tool, but if you look at the value of the 6-N-1 Bucket, it’s an extreme value to get the rake with all the other bucket functions.

Hydraulic Pallet Forks

If you do a lot of work with pallet forks on your skid steer, there is no better attachment for you than a set of hydraulic forks. Automatically adjust the width of your forks from your seat to fit each load.

Available in 4,200 up to 7,500 load limits, once you’ve used a set of these, you’ll wonder why you didn’t pick them up years ago!
