Stump Buckets for tractors aren’t a new attachment, but there were none appropriately sized for small tractors. So we made the GWT Mini Wrecker specifically for tractors under 32 hp, and it’s been a great solution for many customers.
How To Select A Stump Bucket
Since releasing the GWT Mini Wrecker, we’ve also released the HD Wrecker, and we have the Mega Wrecker on the way!
So, if your tractor sits between 25–32 hp, and your loader uses a JDQA, SSQA, or Yanmar Quick Attach, shop our GWT Mini Wrecker.
If your tractor sits between 32–60 hp, and your loader uses a JDQA or SSQA connection, shop our HD Wrecker.
What Is A Stump Bucket Used For?
As the name implies, stump buckets are great for digging up stumps. We’ve been amazed at the size of stumps removed by customers with just a 25-hp subcompact tractor and the Mini Wrecker—we’re talking stumps three to four feet in diameter!
Beyond stumps, this GWT stump bucket can quickly remove root balls or shrubs or dig holes to plant new ones.
You can also dig trenches with stump buckets, as we did for drainage on both sides of our gravel drive.
As the saying goes, ‘It sure beats a shovel!’ So, if you would grab a shovel for a job, the stump bucket can probably be used instead!
Why Is The GWT Wrecker The Right Stump Bucket For Me?
The hardest part in developing the GWT Wrecker was devising an effective serrated edge so that the bucket rips and tears roots as you drive back and forth with it in the dirt.
After settling on a bi-directional design, we focused on the front digging edge.
We think of this as the sacrificial wear point on your attachment. Because of that, the digging edge is bolt-on since you may need to replace it after some time. We upgraded this edge to hardened AR400 steel for extra toughness and longevity.
But the key differentiator between the GWT Mini Wrecker and the other stump buckets on the market is its bucket length. The longer your bucket, the more torque is applied back to your loader and the higher the potential to push your hydraulics or loader arms past their breaking point.
So we reduced that length to 18”, the sweet spot for digging capacity that uses the full power of your tractor and reduces the potential for harm to your machine.
The last addition we made to the bucket is a chain slot in the middle. This allows you to tie off to something using your bucket to pull it. We used this slot to pull up the posts of an old chain link fence.
You won’t find a stump bucket for subcompact tractors anywhere else on the market.
Quick Stump Bucket FAQs
How Easy Is It To Install A Stump Bucket?
With a stump bucket, there really is nothing to install. Your digging edge will ship bolted on but backward. So you need to undo it and turn it facing out.
After that, connect to your loader’s quick attach system and go!
What Does Maintenance Look Like For Stump Buckets?
The only maintenance your stump bucket will require is changing out the bolt-on digging edge if it gets bent. Otherwise, it has no mechanical parts, requires no hydraulics, and is just simple steel!
What Machines Can I Use a Good Works Tractor Stump Bucket On?
Our compact tractor stump bucket is a versatile option and can be used on John Deere, Kubota, Kioti, Mahindra, LS, or any other tractor out there. You can even use the HD Wrecker on skid steers.
What Kind Of Safety Precautions Should I Take?
The main thing to be considerate of when using a stump bucket is the force you apply back to your loader. Generally speaking, if you choose your stump bucket per our guidelines, you won’t be able to apply too much load to your tractor.
We work our tractors hard, as we think that’s why they exist—to help with hard work! With a stump bucket, you will find yourself repeatedly moving forward to reverse as you work to dig up your stump. Sometimes, you’ll ram the stump with your bucket to try and force it free.
Do this cautiously and only after working to free the connecting roots, lest the stump refuses to move—your tractor is the piece that gives! Check out our videos using the stump bucket to see our techniques.
